In the sprawling reaches of the Milky Way, Humanity remains divided among the stars, despite the initial hope of the new Correct Century adopted by the first explorers of the cosmos.

In the year 5237 CC, the Outer Worlds Confederation, a merciless monarchy masquerading as a republic, wages a brutal war against the Judicar Republic.

This war has resulted in a fragile stalemate, where a single moment of weakness can and will cripple each nation's war machines. New weapons and strategies are needed to break the deadlock.

Thus the militarization of the Workersuit, a powered exoskeleton into the Battlesuit, and the nationalization of privateers, have occurred, on both sides.

The crown jewel of the Confederation's merchant raiding is the 223rd Tactical Battlesuit Squadron and its carrier the VCS Tortuga, dubbed "The Jolly Rogers" by their enemies, they tirelessly assault the Judicar Republic's supply lines.

Thrust into the 223rd's position of "Unlucky Number 4," Bryant Thorne begins his tale as the least fortunate member of the 223rd Tactical Battlesuit Squadron, a unit of misfits and outcasts.

With his position as Unit 4 bringing a string of bad luck and a reputation for failure, Bryant is the butt of every joke and the least expected to survive.
