Reggasia is almost like another country to the rest of the people in the old kingdom, because it is; despite being the new capital district of culture it is now bleeding like a stuck pig, it's people starving and the wars the noblesse classes are waging aren't making anything better. As such, a greed driven young rogue takes things into his own hands and goes onto a journey that will take him across the entire district when his country and people are in danger, but will he be able to stop the conspiring nobles from taking over the entire continent? Or will his heart be pierced by the very same blade he gave unto this world seventeen hundred years ago? [#7 World Building.]

In JOS I set the rogue and con-artist Harric against a foil of warriors in a land threatened by magic and civil war. Whenever possible I turn familiar tropes on their heads: instead of a handsome young Lancelot, I cast a broken-down ex-champion addicted to pain-killing herbs; instead of a dashing Squire Brian, the old knight reluctantly takes an ambitious young woman as squire. Similarly, I re-imagine the standard medieval milieu by infusing aspects of two of my favorite historical periods, Elizabethan England, and The American Frontier. Both eras boast a kind of nationalistic arrogance that borders on hubris, and a magnificent spirit of resourcefulness and re-invention that is fun to play with. SERIES The Jack of Souls is first in a series. I am posting parts of the sequel here now (The Knave of Souls), to help me refine the story.

After the tragic events across Gaiathal and within Orconia City, Luka must convince a beat-down people to vacate their walls and travel east to escape a fate worse than what they've already endured. Humans find themselves on a small planet which resembles the First. While the colony try to set up political systems to avoid past mistakes, they quickly realize human nature always appears to be fallible. A promising group of siblings are bestowed golden apples from the mysterious Trees of the planet, granting them immortality and the obvious role of leading next. Each lead groups of people infected by a virus, which provides the people powers that mirror those of the Apex animals on the planet: the Wolve's ability to heal, the extraordinary eyesight of the Ravens, the physics-defying Tigers, the resilient and water savvy Orcas, and the super-strength Bears. Despite the new powers that appear to provide prolonged peace to the planet, a sinister character lurks in the background plotting their own mysterious and nefarious goals: The Scientist. An unlikely hero, along with the friends he meets during his quest to discover his identity, will themselves to complete the impossible task of stopping the Scientist and all that the Scientist schemes. But are they simply subjects in the Scientist's experiment? Mature content includes some violence.
