The story follows Noa, a young ape, and Mae, a captive human woman, in a world where apes are the dominant species and humans are considered property. Noa is different from the other apes and believes in peaceful coexistence between apes and humans. When he buys Mae, he defies his tyrannical father Koro, who believes that humans must be controlled through violence and oppression.
Despite Mae's initial hostility and deep mistrust, Noa tries to earn her trust and protect her. He provides her with food, water, and care while sharing his vision of a better world. Eventually, they plan their escape from the settlement, as Noa realizes they are not safe there and he can no longer fight against his father's brutal methods.
They journey together through the wilderness, searching for a place where apes and humans can live in peace.
