Dipper and Mabel had been planned to leave their great uncle Stan's shack at the end of their seventh grade summer vacation and go back to their parents house for eighth grade. Now, at the age of sixteen, they're still resided in their Grunkles house with no explanation.
While attending Gravity Falls High, Mabel grew to be a popular at the new school, keeping Granda and Candi at her side as she did so.
Dipper, on the other hand, is basically a nobody. The only reason the other students would know of him would be because he's Mabel's sister or the fact that he never put down the book about mythological things.
Though their personalities split, Mabel still loves being with her brother, but what'll happen when Dipper discovers the truth about why they're still in Oregon, and how the new Human Bill can help solve the domino effects of his new found knowledge.

After a terrible car crash resulting in the death of their parents, 17 year olds Dipper and Mabel Pines are sent back to Gravity Falls to live with their Grunkles. Mabel now hates Dipper, and blames him for the crash, since they were only out getting him his anxiety medication. The Grunkles don't fully agree with Mabels logic, but are still distant with Dipper, for they think he's a freak because of his anxiety. And so in the one place he felt he could truly call home, Dipper was now alone and hated by the "family" that once loved him. One night, Dipper overhears the family talking about how useless he is and, doing the only thing he knows, he runs.
