Ambivalence means to have conflicting or contradictory feelings towards something. It was the main word Y/N would use to describe himself. Sure, he lost his family so he should be sad about that. But they abused and neglected him, so he was glad he didn't have to live through that anymore. But still, you're supposed to love family and everything, so he wasn't sure how to feel about it.
