The town of Cambridge Falls is no stranger to the unnerving. For over a century, people have gone missing, and the townsfolk know who to blame. The Dire Magnus, they call him, a sorcerer who rules an enchanted forest, one that's a dark mirror of the woods surrounding their home. He snatches away residents without warning, and now his terrible shadow has fallen upon the Wibberlys.

Kate, Michael, and Emma have had a hard life. When they were small, their parents left one day and never returned. Put in the care of their godfather, Gabriel, who moved them to his hometown, the trio has spent years relying only on each other, and their steadfast guardian, all while wondering what happened to their parents. Little do they know their troubles have just begun. After a late night escapade, Michael and Emma become the latest missing locals. The Dire Magnus has taken them to his realm, from which none have ever returned. But Kate and Gabriel will not accept that they are truly gone.

Setting out on a rescue mission, the pair venture into the dark, magical domain the town has long feared. No matter what surprises await, they are determined to save their family. Even if, to do so, Kate will have to bargain with the Dire Magnus himself.

The year is 1899, and Kate has more responsibility then ever placed upon her aching shoulders. She and her siblings have just been thrown out of their orphanage in Baltimore by the cruel Mrs. Crumley, and have no place to go. They haven't seen their parents in over ten years, despite being told they would come back. The three children are on their own in an unforgiving world, not least because they are magic users in a time when their kind are hated and harmed by humans. They make their way to New York, a place with a strong magical population, in the hopes of finding someone to help them, both with survival and finding their long lost parents to reunite their family. It's there they meet the Savages, a gang of magical children who live in an abandoned church and make their living through thieving. They welcome the three siblings, and it's with them that Kate, Michael, and Emma finally find a place to call home. New friends, magic lessons, purpose, and a fascinating city to explore make them think that things are finally looking up. Here with the Savages, Emma can be with children who understand her and let her mischievous side run free, Michael can practice magic and learn spells without fear of being seen and punished, and Kate can share the burdens she has carried for so long with the magician-boy who is leader of the gang, Rafe. And yet, for all the good changes that have happened in the lives of the siblings since they arrived in New York, darkness still clings to them like a shadow. The Separation of human and magical worlds is approaching fast, and the brutal Imps are spreading through the city like a plague. Not to mention, the children aren't any closer to finding answers about their parents and the reason behind their disappearance. Challenges await them, far greater than they ever imagined facing. Through it all, Kate, Michael and Emma must remain strong, because they have destinies awaiting them, and they aren't the only ones who fate has plans for.

Niccola is a demi-queen undercover in enemy territory. Her little sister went missing seven moons ago, but one lead remains: a picture of a woman's face, drawn by a diviner shortly after the disappearance. Tracking her down has led Niccola to Calis, the realm next door whose border with her own remains closed for a reason. There, the trail goes cold. Until, that is, Niccola runs into a man in the marketplace who bears a family resemblance to the woman she seeks. His name is Isaiah, crown prince of Calis, and he's investigating disappearances, too. They join forces, faking courtship to sneak Niccola into the palace and get Isaiah's wedding-minded mother off his back. It doesn't take long to suspect that a common threat might underpin both their realms' problems. And as Niccola begins to develop real feelings for Isaiah, she's faced with an impossible choice: reveal her secrets and risk breaking his trust, or leave him in order to chase down the woman who stole her sister... a woman whose forbidden magic comes with a cost that could bring both realms to ruin. ❖❖❖ Complete and fully edited.
