In a realm where technology and ancient magic intertwine, James Ward is no ordinary citizen; like all Mindlinks, he shares a symbiotic connection with the Mind Link Supercomputer, a bond that grants him access to unparalleled knowledge and abilities. His life takes an unexpected turn when he is chosen by the supercomputer itself for a mission of critical importance. Meanwhile, in the shadowed lands of the Everlinks, Afina, a half-demon, half-dark elf princess, renowned not for a dark past but for her defiance and strength, receives a prophecy from the Oracle Frangotta, guiding her to a destiny intertwined with James. Brought together by fate, James and Afina are enlisted into Messorem, a secret organization of assassins charged with a daunting task: to thwart the efforts of those who wish to rekindle the ancient war between their peoples. Despite their vastly different worlds-James, with his technological prowess and serene understanding of the Mind Link, and Afina, with her formidable magical skills and royal heritage-they find common ground in their shared goal. As partners, they navigate the challenges of their mission, leveraging James's strategic mind and Afina's combat skills. Their journey takes them across the land, from the high-tech sanctuaries of the Mind Link society to the mystical realms of the Everlinks, drawing them into a web of intrigue, power struggles, and emerging threats. Along the way, they encounter a cast of characters whose alliances and motives are as varied as the landscapes they traverse. The true challenge for James and Afina lies not in the specter of their enemies but in their ability to forge unity between their contrasting worlds. As they delve deeper into their mission, they uncover secrets that test their loyalties and challenge their perceptions, realizing that the key to averting war lies not in destruction but in understanding and cooperation.

Call Al Squires many things: a special agent, a crime-fighter, a Magick-user, a mad scientist, a genius, a trickster, a philosopher, among others. Of course, you can also call him not-so-nice things: like 'pompous,' 'annoying,' and 'a lunatic'; but let's not dwell on the negative. However, in this second addition in the Al Squires of the Protectorate series, Al's adding a new name to the list: TIME TRAVELER! After Al and his new partner/trainee, Norah Navarro, have a 'chance' encounter with a mysterious witch on a foggy night, they're then called to their HQ for an emergency meeting along with the usual suspects. They then learned that their Division has been asked to help agents from Ouroboros, an ally organization in charge with time travel and anything Time-related, who are tasked to catch a time-traveling serial killer who has murdered four of their agents. It's strikes a definite cord when they find out that one of the victims is Sylvie Parish, the Division's Forensics expert/Ouroboros Liaison/ Al's frenemy. Of course, it doesn't strike as big a cord than it does with Sylvie, who was right there at the meeting, alive and well! So, in order to save Sylvie (and the other three) from being murdered, Al and Norah- along with their friends and fellow agents and a few Ouroboros agents- must travel back in time to prevent each murder from happening. However, there is one setback that may prove a hindrance to the mission: The emitter that Al wears that keeps his Lodestone side-affects in check has been sabotaged. That means he has to deal with all sorts of strangely horror-themed weirdness; including (but not limited to) Disco Zombies, Black Magick Hippies, and worse! And he and Norah can't tell anyone about it because the witch placed a spell on them that prevents them from telling anyone this. So, other than that, Sylvie's going to be fine...right?
