I have sat often in front of the computer, and stared long at the screen without ever writing a word. The synopsis for this project has haunted me since the first person asked me "So, what is it about?", and to this day I have never been able to deliver a straight answer. This book is about a number of things, many of which do not fit evenly into a succinct description. I have tried to make them fit and have found the resulting descriptions ill-representing and dull. Wizards, vampires, fairies, and their supernatural peers have always had trouble with modern technology. Alex Norton is the guy they turn to for computers and phones that won't explode in their hands. Paranormal tech support is frustrating when your clients are centuries older than your grandparents and can light you on fire with a thought, but at least the pay is good. When Alex's best friend and former partner dies unexpectedly, he's left with plenty inherit. There's a house, a pile of old gadgets, and plenty of books. Oh, and a niece he's never met, who he has to take as an apprentice and serve as her guide to the world of the Weird. Note: This is a first manuscript, and the first completed draft at that. They gradually begin to learn more about one another while they wait for a bad storm to pass and experience a rather nerve-wracking event in the process. Later in the week, Ace, the cyborg hacker (and one hell of a chess player) receives an email from an old friend and learns that a virus is being spread rapidly throughout the nation that's heavily reliant on technology. The government and almost everything that's based on technology is being corrupted and there's only one facility that can put a stop to it before everything goes up in flames. The group is called upon to assist in the process since they each have their own unique abilities to put to use. No one knows if they'll be able to get rid of the virus in time or if they'll die trying. Who knew a few pieces of paper could do so much to 6 random strangers.
