The next time Jiang Wanyin awoke, his mind was in a much calmer state, and his body was more numb and achy than in excruciating pain. And while not all of his pain was gone, he genuinely felt more well rested than he had been in years.

As he slowly panned his eyes over his immediate surroundings in order to let them come into focus, he heard a soft shuffling noise. Turning his head to the direction the noise echoed from, he came face to face with the last person he expected to see.
