An original action and science-fiction novel by Laura Bowden. (Edited by Emilyy Goff)
Meiko is addicted to the internet. More specifically, the most popular VR game out there - the Code. In the Code, your avatar can be challenged to duel with other players, the result of the duel moving one of the players up in the rankings. There is a glitch, in the game, however, one that brings the simulation to life. Players whose avatar gets shot wake up from the simulation with a gunshot wound or something along those lines. None of the game's admin know who or what has spawned the glitch - but Meiko has a hunch. With headset and controller in hand, she investigates all the injured and disappearing players, bringing all their ailments back to the same player - 'blackswordsmen_' - one who has mysteriously never been beaten in a supervised duel.
