Rebellious 17-year old Penny Ackerman has gone through the unimaginable. Dealing with grief, mental health, financial and family issues isn't exactly easy for a teenager after all. However, things don't end there for her. After being sent to her extended family in California for a "change of pace," Penny struggles to settle in and adjust into the small-town beach life where she ends up meeting many new faces, including surfing prodigy Zane Williams: her polar opposite. Even despite their differences, the two form an unexpected connection as she's roped into a life she never could have imagined having. Determined to make close-minded Penny see life as worthy of living again, Zane continuously tries to crack her out of her shell and is the only one who seems to be able to see past her mask. Just maybe and only maybe will life become more than just a game of survival.
