Lying next to each other,
Hands locked together,
Legs intertwined.

Your face in my neck,
I feel the warmth of your breath,
Hear your calm heartbeat.

You mumble into the dark,
"I'm tired.."
And I whisper back to you,
"You can sleep."

I hold you tighter when you do.

Alone in bed with you,
In the comforting quiet of the early hours,
I read a book as you peacefully sleep.

You do the same for me,
Pages quietly flipping as I lay half awake.

The peaceful void calls my name,
And I answer with no hesitance.

For I know,
I am safer in the warmth of your embrace.
