One summer in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ana Irving meets Darry Curtis while waitressing. Ana can't help noticing the young man's handsome looks and piercing eyes, while Darry seems drawn to the sweet, confident blonde girl who always manages to brighten his day. Darry is the unofficial leader of a gang of greasers, the dirt-poor kids who live on the eastern side of town, opposite of their rival gang the Socs. The two grow a connection, and eventually Ana forms a bond with the six other boys of the gang. One night, however, one of the boys makes a fateful decision that sends all their lives in a spin.
