In a remote and impoverished village in the early 1950s, built on labour-intensive farming methods and suspicion of change. The protagonist, Su Zhenren, a sharp modern female lawyer finds herself transmigrated into the body of a weak, neglected young woman often looked down upon in the village. She faces immediate mockery and misogyny, when she suggests turning traditional farming into "agri-business" by improving fertilizer and crop rotation, to solve the village's agricultural problems. She uses her wit to produce high yielding crops using improved farming methods, breaking gender stereotypes, forcing the villagers to accept that a woman lead in agriculture and not just domestic duties, thereby transitioning from a "weak fool" to a "valued innovator.
