Prior to all the events that has happened so far inside the Inverse Universe / Slendytubbies, taking a step back we glance at truly what did happen to the humans. Or mostly, on what happened to one human named Siren Simons. Formally known as Doctor Simons before his untimely and unorthodox demise of being turned into a Tubbie due to his own motivation. 

In short, nobody truly wanted to hurt those creatures. But they were ordered to in fear of feeling retaliation or worse death for not obeying.

Though, Siren seemingly survived all of that if he's here out there experiencing the apocalypse first-handed. And severally unlucky unlike the other heroines in Inverse. 

It just seems his main purpose after being transformed is to attempt to live and see what world all Humans left for these Teletubbies.

Pairing is good most who are paired do end-up staying together because while genetics play good part in determining a match so does personality. Some people choose to use spend this time having a good time with as many partners as possible. Dylan however, vowed that she would never fall in love with anyone before pairing. The universe had other plans however, when Dylan learns that she'll pair with an Upper named Kyive Sinclar life gets more complicated than ever. Falling in love is hard enough falling in love in space that the story.
