Jamie is a nonbinary Black teenager, who has no friends. They spend their summers in the graveyard listening to music and reading, and in school they sit in a tree reading by themselves. One summer, Jamie runs into an otherworldly boy in the graveyard dressed like a Greek, who they eventually befriend. Jamie learns a truth about him which leads to a shattering truth about their religion, or rather, their lack of it. The boy has good morals, a steadfast belief in God, and a kind exterior.
