Marlene Moore is fresh out of high school when the war touches the American's soil at Pearl Harbor. So the introverted girl takes a risky business and decides to enlist as a flight nurse in the war effort to live out what she expects to be an adventure similar to the ones she reads in her books, fascinated by the freedom that she feels when flying.
Robert Rosenthal on the other hand is a pilot, in a leading position, which is guaranteed by his hard-working persona and charming nature. He's an extrovert, an oxymoron compared to Marlene. But soon the two find out that they're more similar than they thought, leading them to grow more intrigued by the other day after day.
When Charlotte Remington, Marlene's best friend and fellow nurse, notices the growing feelings between the two, she takes it upon herself to do everything necessary to get the two together, and that includes stopping a certain John Egan, that is considered like a brother by Marlene, by intruding between the two. And how she plans to do this? By using the affection that the man has for her to her advantage obviously!
But what Charlotte didn't consider in her plan was the riskiest of business that was taking place at the moment: the raging war that threatened to tear all of them apart.
