Armed with only her finest sword, a few essential items, and her wits, Malika has finally decided to sever the connections between herself and her father, who happens to be the King of the Hominum Empire, and run away from her home in the castle. The sixteen years she has spent with her father, a power hungry yet shrewd man with the acumen of a fox, have been fraught with frustration and negligence on his part. It is the night of her thoroughly planned escape, and she is ready to part with the wretched castle of her youth.
Then she discovers a secret of her father's that has the potential to rip apart the entire Empire.
After becoming partners with one of her own, Malika discovers that demons are not a myth, that there are forces at play that were previously elusive to her, and that her father intends to use those forces to garner the largest amount of power ever before seen in all of history. Forced from her once relatively easy life of luxury and recreation, Malika must travel across the Empire to learn at Vocans Academy, the one place where her knowledge can be used to stop her father once and for all.
