Peridot, often referred to as the "Gem of the Sun," is one of the oldest known gemstones, first discovered on Topazo Island in the Egyptian Red Sea around 1500 B.C. Historically called Olivine or Chrysolite, its name derives from the Arabic word "faridata," meaning gem. Peridot is known for its vibrant olive-green to yellow-green hues, with the finest specimens coming from Myanmar, Pakistan, and the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Smaller, more yellowish Peridots are found in Arizona.
In addition to its aesthetic appeal, Peridot holds significant cultural and spiritual value. It was the second stone in the High Priest's breastplate and is believed to protect against evil spirits. It is also associated with August, offering strength and positive energy to those who wear it. Peridot is celebrated for its healing properties, promoting prosperity, happiness, and emotional balance. Its high vibrational Heart Chakra crystal property is said to foster peace, love, and integrity.
