Thomas is out of a job. Every application he send to local businesses or major industrial entities gets turned down within an instant of being sent out. He has no other options behind him - but an advertisement in the newspapers catches his eye.
A fire-lookout stands to be one of the simplest jobs in his eyes. At $30 per hour, he quite literally gets to enjoy solitude in the middle of the Canadian wilderness, or so he believes.

"GLIMPSES..." is the story of all the stories my work involved: the who, what, when, where, why, and how of people I met, our society's attitudes, my networks, lessons learned, mistakes made, many good times and some very bad ones. I hope to reveal how it felt to be a Canadian worker from the 1950s until about 2000, to provide perspective on why those years were the way they were, and perhaps offer clues as to how they led us to Now.
