"i don't think i have a choice."

jake could only run away from who he was for so long. with the new house, new car, new friends, new job.

his past felt so far off, if you told him it wasn't real, he'd eventually believe it. mostly because he was embarrassed of who he was, where he had come from.

he didn't want to remember.

he was forced to.

-------

after forming a new life and burying his past jake is forced to confront himself and head back home to visit his mother who's health has been declining. johnnie offers to accompany him unaware of the anxiety and self hatred jake is struggling with.

*********************** "You're the city kid who's parents kicked the buck- fuck. I mean shit. I mean hi." He stammers. The entire family stares at Jack in pure horror. I burst into laugher, still to their horror. "Good one." I chuckle. Jack raises his sharp eyebrows. "You're fucked up, City Boy." He says. "Kieran." I say. "Bless you." He responds quickly. "No that's my name. Kieran." I elaborate. "Like the coffee maker?" He asks. "What? No, not Kierig, Kieran." I repeat. "Key ring." Jack says. I sigh. "I'm bein' serious as all outdoors, I can't say it." Jack says. "Maybe because you talk like a weed whacker." I say. Jack looks taken back by my comment. "You're funny. I like you...Kerin?" Jack says. "Keep trying." I say. "Jack, why don't you help Kieran settle into his room?" Roger suggests putting so much emphasis on my name, I almost forget how to say it. "You mean my room? Sure thing, Father." Jack huffs. Wait... I have to share a room with that thing? He looks like he bites. "Don't worry, Kieran. He don't bite." Roger assures me. Did I say that aloud or has Jack bitten in the past? **************************** Kieran's life is in shambles. His parents suddenly die in a car accident and he is sent to his father's next of kin, Roger all the way in Georgia. He doesn't know Roger, He doesn't like Georgia, and worse - they live on farm and Roger has 7 kids. Things don't look good For Kieran until he meets the very good-looking (yet ugly talking), Jack Matthews, one of Roger's 7 children and his new roommate.

"Tell me to stop," he whispered. "And I will." "But I don't want to," she breathed. Some lines, once crossed, don't disappear. ____________________________________________________________ She was married. He was younger. And neither of them meant for it to go this far. After losing her daughter, Emily's life became a quiet act-numb days, an absent husband, and a house too quiet to call home. Grief hangs in the walls, and her heart hasn't felt anything in years. Until Jake. He's younger. Gentle. He looks at her like she's still someone worth loving. What starts as cautious conversation turns into stolen glances, soft touches, and a kiss that changes everything. Now Emily must choose: stay loyal to the life she promised... or follow the spark she thought she'd lost forever. Can you mourn what was and still reach for what could be? A slow-burn, emotionally charged forbidden romance about grief, rediscovery, and the moments that change everything.
