Group Plural Rule in all my books: I use the word guys when it is one girl in a group of boys or one guy in a group of girls. This is fair on the male gender. Also friends will use the words dear and sweetie as those are neutral gender nicknames. Sweetheart will be used with both sexes speaking to opposite genders especially if they happen upon a platonic friend of an opposite gender in a time of sorrow when one needs words of encouragement that offer genuine comfort.
