BLUE DUST TRILOGY #2

"What happened after that?"

"Afterward, Wu Wang turned into a small sapling, standing alone in their little yard. Over time, the yard grew wild and overgrown, but the tree continued to grow taller and taller. Decades passed, and a child came across the yard. He loved the tree very much-he would often rest in its shade, climb its branches, or lean against it, talking to the tree. The boy begged his parents to buy the land. His family was wealthy, and his parents doted on him, so they bought the entire area and moved nearby. That way, the boy could spend every day with the tree."

"And then?"

"As the boy grew older, he decided to become a sailor, so he couldn't always stay with the tree. One time, while he was away, a fierce storm swept through the coast. A bolt of lightning struck the tree. When the boy returned home, he found the tree gone, the house burned down, and the yard reduced to ashes. The boy clung to the charred stump, crying, 'My tree is gone.'"

"Did Wu Wang free himself from the form of the tree?"

"Yes, at that moment, he evolved into his third form, achieving true immortality. He left Earth and returned to his home planet."

"Was that boy really Su? Did he carry Su's soul?"

"I don't know. He didn't know either. Trees don't think."

"Why didn't Wu Wang go back to find the boy? Wouldn't it feel like an unresolved regret?"
"I asked him the same question. He immediately replied, 'Because I have no right to interfere with that child's life again.'"

"Ah... perhaps that's for the best. If it turned out not to be true, if souls don't exist at all, wouldn't that be even more heartbreaking? After that, what did he do on his home planet?"

"He said that it didn't matter whether it was true or not; he already had everything. From what I understand of his intentions, he will carry it all within him and drift weightless in the seas of his planet, for eternity."
