Fiara Forrest is an assassin. She's never known any different. Anyone who is a threat to King Losan's power is an immediate target for her.

King Losan is afraid of his kingdom being taken from him by a rival king in the south. Fia is sent to the kingdom of Rivulet to carry out the murder of its king, only to be caught that same night. The kingdom goes into lockdown, and Fia is trapped for the foreseeable future. Now she has to act like a regular citizen of Rivulet without being suspected of the king's murder.
This is a problem- not only because she has been deprived of regular human interaction her whole life, but also because the son of the ruler she murdered has taken a close interest in her, and, as much as she wants to deny it, so has she.
Fia must escape Rivulet, an almost impossible task, but to do so she must give up the one thing she's never had: Love.
