Nalin is a young girl living with her father in Rayong, Thailand. She spends her days studying and learning under her father's guidance, to become strong and wise. All goes well until one fateful day when her father dies. While still mourning, her uncle comes to take her to Bangkok with him, where he beats and exploits her.
A year later, the Japanese invade the capital and Nalin's life changes forever as she is taken to be a comfort woman.
