Runaway

Hello guys, this is my first proper story so this will probably have minor grammatical mistakes until edited. The fragment of the Prologue is as follows xx.

I remember the day I left home like it was yesterday. I was seventeen, and the rain poured down in sheets, as if the sky itself was crying for me. The bruises on my arms ached with every step, a cruel reminder of the life I was leaving behind. My parents' voices still echoed in my head, a cacophony of threats and insults that had been my lullaby for as long as I could remember. I didn't have a plan, just a small backpack with a few clothes and a little money I'd saved from my part-time job. I headed for the bus station, hoping to get as far away as possible, to a place where I could finally breathe without fear.
