Extract: The young dragonet lay curled up in a corner of the cave. She was silver all over, with golden horns, spines and claws. As you watched, the gold crept up her body whilst she slept, travelling from the horns, all the way down to the tip of the tail. In a blink you would have missed it. Where once a silver dragon had been sleeping, she was now fully gold, her breaths coming out in wisps of smoke from the scale lined nostrils. The dragon slowly opened a silver eye, with turquoise highlights near the pupil. She was awake, shown when she shifted and froze, before nervously turning her head to look at her wings; staring at them as if she had never seen them before. Her gaze travelled to the spines, the talons, and finally the shimmering scales that gave the illusion of liquid gold. A gust of wind moved the vines covering the entrance. Light flooded in, illuminating her surroundings, the dragon glittering and sparkling in the light. The wind died. The vines fell back. The darkness returned. And the dragonet trembled. "No one cares who your mommy or daddy is here." Unless your mommy or daddy sided with my father, then everyone cares. "Even King Tauri's second son died during his Threshing. So tell me again: Do you feel invincible now that you've made it into the Riders Quadrant? Untouchable? Elite?" This time no one cheers. "Because you're not untouchable or special to them." Xaden points a finger at the navy-blue dragon behind him and leans forward slightly, and says, deadly calm, "To them, you're just the prey." I swallow the lump in my throat. He's trying to scare us, they all are, so the dragons know who to pick off. But I will not let any of them win. I may not have had a choice in coming to the Riders Quadrant, but now that I'm here, the only way I'm leaving is on the back of a dragon.

When Skyla Whitlock, a renowned criminal, turns the age of 20, she is forced to join the Riders Quadrant. Just as did all the other children of the separatists did, as per the contract made by Xaden Riorson and General Lilith Sorrengail. He would be a second year by the time she crossed the Parapet, and she would make it her mission to find Xaden and become his ally at Basgiath War College. She would give her life for his, as for he had done far more for her than she deserved. She would become as loyal to him as a dog to its owner. This book is a fan fiction of Rebecca Yarros' Empyrean series. It takes place one year before fourth wing, I plan to make books that follow the series. So there should be five more after this one, six in total. All characters and storyline belong to RY, besides Skyla Whitlock and some added characters that I made up due to when and where this book takes place.
