Theo looks at me, his eyes sparkling with amusement, "I've never heard you snort before, that was cute," he chuckles.
"Stop it-" I cover my face and peek out "there's a lot you don't know about me."
He tilts his head thoughtfully and replies, "The phone works both ways...So, how are you?"
His question catches me off guard, I flatter and place my hands infront of me "I'm good. And you?"
"Good. Any plans for the summer?"
"Umm... I'm aiming to break my record. Last summer, I read...34 or maybe 40 books. I can't remember."
"Wow, what kinds of books do you enjoy?" He leans in, genuinely interested.
My heart skips a beat.

Dianthe (Dani), a reserved overthinker, and Theodore (Theo), the golden retriever boy, truly connect during the summer after high school. He introduces her to his friend group, encouraging her to embrace the experiences every teenager should have before adulthood.
However, Dani struggles with feeling like a burden and tries to avoid getting attached to people she believes will only be around for the summer.
