The main character of this story is a young woman who never awakened her powers. her name is Umbra. 17 in age she is following in her older brother's footsteps of becoming a "Magistrate". 
As she begins taking the final steps in fulfilling her dreams she realizes that the magistrates might not be what she had thought. And when a plot is revealed involving the "Beast" and... her powers??? She realizes that she's being played like a pawn in chess.
