Cassandra Adams is scraping by as a consignment nurse while she protects the daughter she found just a few weeks after the world ended. Rick has a poor-healing amputation and Cass is the key to survival. Cass is struggling in hand-to-hand combat and has gotten nowhere in her escape attempts meanwhile Rick has gotten further than anyone else before him.
Despite their mutual dislike, the two agree on a deal- a pact.
She keeps him alive and he helps them vanish.
