I don't need friends to support me. I don't need a family who helps me. Nor do I have one. Everyone has that group of people they can go to for support. That they know will never turn on them, hurt them, or bring them down. I don't have that group of people. It's one soul, one beating heart, that's keeping me from falling apart. What if I lose that too?

Kingdom of flame and kingdom of ice. Constantly clashing, never letting up. Except for when the one thing crosses their paths. One of ice and flame. A "special one" they say. One that gets locked away and left to be destroyed by not just the others, but by themselves. This is a story of one of those people. But not one that's been locked up. One that escaped. One who's surviving. But the world is misleading at every turn. This is more than a war for power or control. It's a war for trust, equality, and most of all, freedom.

Right now I'm curled up in a corner because I was running from someone trying to kill me. I don't know how long I have before they find me, but for what time I do have I know I can't keep it a secret. It's all been a secret too long, with only a few people knowing. And one-by-one every one of them has died. First the note. Then the next thing I knew I was running for my life. All because of one little secret let loose. But no, it was the many secrets that went with it. And I'm the only one who knows the true extent of them... For now.

I thought I knew my world. The people in it, the secrets they held, their intentions. . . Turns out I didn't have a clue. They lie and deceive and manipulate you without you knowing. You let your guard down around the people you trust the most, only to have them stab you in the back. Some say ignorance is bliss, but I say ignorance is death. Because not knowing things gets you killed.

Survive. That's the one thing we have to do. No holding back. No second thoughts. But it's just not that simple. Every year, a group of sixteen-year-olds is chosen to represent their family. They are taken from their homes and the only way to go back home is if they pass. The Test. It could make you. It could destroy you. All you have to do, is pass. It's not one you study for. They're all different. No one is able to talk about it. Not everyone survives. And those who do, are too terrified to talk about it. One thing for sure is, you have to be focused. Any distraction can cost you. Anything could fail you.
