"Wynn..." Wynn couldn't help but think that there was something about Carl's voice that made it captivating, as if every word that came out of his lips were a siren's song 

"I love yo-"

"Don't say that"  she cut him off, she couldn't stand hearing something that was false, not in that moment, where the only thing she needed was a little truth in her life.

"I mean it" He got closer, trying to reach his hand over to her cheek, but she backed away.

"I can't say it back" She did love him, but in that moment it seemed as though the only reason Carl was saying those three words to her was because he pitied her.

"I didn't say 'I love you' to hear it back. I said it to make sure you knew" He responded.
