Raden Mas Rohman, a spy for the Islamic Mataram Kingdom, recounts his mission to spy on the VOC (Dutch East India Company) in Batavia (modern-day Jakarta). Disguised as a vegetable seller, he gathers intelligence with the help of Sari, a fellow spy posing as a cook in the VOC fortress. They discover VOC plans to dominate Java and prepare a deceptive peace proposal.

Rohman returns to Mataram to report to Sultan Agung. Despite resistance from Patih Endranata, a trusted royal guard, Rohman's information leads to capturing a VOC soldier who confirms VOC's strategies. Over the years, Sultan Agung faces internal betrayal and external threats. Endranata and Raden Mas Suroso, another spy, are eventually revealed as traitors aiding the VOC.

In 1629, Sultan Agung launches a massive attack on Batavia. Despite initial failures and internal strife, the Mataram troops inflict significant damage on the VOC, killing their governor-general and causing heavy losses. The war's end sees Sultan Agung focusing on cultural and agricultural advancements, leading Mataram into a prosperous era.

Rohman, now head of training for Mataram's soldiers, reflects on his life filled with espionage and loyalty to his kingdom. He cherishes his peaceful old age and the enduring legacy of Sultan Agung's reign.
