Buzz Lightyear faces a showdown with his arch-nemesis, the Evil Emperor Zurg, only to discover the shocking truth that Zurg is his long-lost father. Meanwhile, Warp Darkmatter, choosing the path of redemption, returns to Star Command as a reformed villain and falls in love with Mira Nova. Mira's father, however, wants her to leave Star Command and inherit the throne of Tangea.

As Buzz attempts to persuade his father to join the side of good, he fails. During a fierce space battle, Buzz is separated from his family and friends and crash-lands on a planet called Earth. Stranded and unable to repair his ship or contact Star Command, Buzz ventures into the Old West, where he meets Sheriff Woody and the cowgirl, Jessie.

Meanwhile, Buzz Lightyear's evil twin from an alternate universe resurfaces, aiming to conquer the Galactic Alliance. To make matters worse, a threat even greater than Zurg looms over the galaxy.
