There is an innate fear and an even more innate attraction to darkness that humans carry with them from birth, that gives the night heavy symbolism of passage and change.Few people ever look deeper into it,that the night may be a reflection on what has passed.

Laila mourns the loss of her parents, more than she does anyone else, but she still carries brilliant strength of spirit, and an encounter with a spirit that has been dormant since antiquity is probably going to act as a catalyst for her ascent.

The story I tend to produce is one of reflection, transformation, and of course, ambition and hope.

I would like to make a request that all comments be kept at least PG,and are in no way offensive, insulting,or abusive.

Yes,constructive criticism and the likes are certainly allowed, but not when they are presented in a rude fashion.

Thank you.

They took her. That's the last thing that burns in my mind, at least the most important thing that can come to mind. Everyone knew her, she was a sacred gem to the royals, her name was Tori LightningFlame. A dutchess soon to be married to Prince Spectre. That's how we all knew her, not how she used to roam through the walls of the city without permission (although I'm sure I only remember that), not how she would dance around the ballroom in her father's shoes with her friends until dawn. Everyone simply thought of her as a kind and generous person who would someday be our queen. But one day, Spectre thought differently, all I saw was when she was binded and screaming for help on the back of a horse driven carriage, guards yelling at her to quiet down or she would be burned. There was much talk arising in the lands after that day, some say she was taken and burned to her death miserably, others who speak the truth in our quaint town say she was taken away and cursed upon, making her a monster and could only thrive in her own world. Then we only believed that she was out of our lives and it was against the written laws to speak of her unless given permission. Even today, no one has spoken of her to me. And no one ever will. Possibly. When I was younger I heard most of the talk about Tori and Spectre being a stable boy, but it wasn't enough for me, I wanted a better job, I wanted to hear more about them, I wanted to be important there. So everyday for the past five years I've begged. And begged. And begged my father to let me at least attempt to become a squire. Ever since my tenth birthday I had hoped and wished for the day he would finally accept my plead. Every beck and call of mine was given in every form possible. Until one day he finally agreed. The day of my fifteenth birthday. It was an extraordinary day, one I could never forget.

------------- "Why're you staring at me?" I ask teasingly. I hear him letting out a breath, of embarrassment or guilt I don't know. "I may have unintentionally hurt you, on several occasions. I may have done the wrong thing more than once. But despite all of that I still like you, hell if I know I might love you. I've never felt the way I feel about you for anyone else before. I can't stop thinking about you. Your laugh, your smile, your voice. How you manage to pull a joke at a time like this, to how peaceful, and beautiful you look when you're sleeping." I smile. "You okay? Did you hit your head or somethin'?" I tease. "Shut up." ------------------------- Olivia, a 16-year-old girl with a tragic past. Her sister was kidnapped and brutally killed, her father comes up with the brilliant idea of moving. As she's getting settled in school, she meets this mysterious boy, and before she knows it she is dragged into hell. Literally. Figuring out that the kidnapper is connected to the murder of her sister, might be her downfall. Especially when she finds out her big family secret, and the terrifying fact that her classmate, is in fact, a demon. How will she deal with the new turn of events and how her life has been turned completely upside down. Especially when she was convinced that she would only focus on school, something that is now so far down on her list of important things to worry about, that she barely even remembers to show up to class. It is the autumn equinox, or the death day, the time to contact those that have gone before. Everyone closes their eyes and are silent to commune with the spirits. I had never tried to contact spirits before. But this year I seek my mother. She died this day, fourteen years ago; my birthday. My position in the ceremony is shadow maker. This is a role that I have played since I was old enough to carry the marker staff. It is a rod the length of my forearm tapered at the lower end and holding a clear stone at the top. I hold it high in the air waiting. It catches the light, and its shadow forms an eye directly in the middle of the equinox stones. Spirits surround me. They stop and nod, or at least make eye contact before moving on. "Mother?" She could be an older version of myself. She smiles at me, then, fades as an old presence joins me. This spirit isn't just old; it's ancient. It exudes wisdom and understanding, peace and culture. We celebrate, together, to the music of creation. I seem to know the dance but not as well as she. We are alone only briefly before being joined by another. They dance as if they know each other's every move. I try to keep up. When I falter, they smile, laugh and show me how. There is no passage of time. We dance together for an instant and forever. I shouldn't, but I open my eyes. My shadow, marking the equinox, isn't a shadow, it is a shimmering swirl of blended light. The stone in the top of my staff is flicking with a brilliant white accented by scintillating bands of many colours. I quickly close my eyes but the ancients are gone. We all open our eyes. My shadow falls through the standing stones as it should. And it is black, also, as it should be. They had danced with me.

My mother always told me when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. When someone knocks you down, you get right back up. You fight the good fight until you have nothing left. You fight with honor, you protect the ones you love, and if you just happen to die in the process, than you do so with dignity and grace. What my mother neglected to tell me during my studies was that you don't always get what you want, the outcome you think is coming doesn't always happen, and when the smoke clears, you're always going to be the last one standing. By the end of The Certainty, Georgiana Vertigo is left with nothing more than her life, something many people would be more than happy to have. However, Georgiana is left to her own devices in a strange city, alone and heartbroken with regular intense bouts of depression. In starting a new life with the Guild, Georgiana has everything she needs in order to move on with her life and keep her mind off the past. Only problem is, the past is never truly forgotten and no matter how hard you try to shake them, the feelings that go along with the memories don't just fade away. ~ * ~ Alright, chickens. You asked for it (some of you at least) and here it is...well...part of it. Like I've told a few of you, this is a work in progress. I add pieces to it when I think of them. The posting on this story will NOT be regular but thankfully for you, I have quite a bit of it done. I just haven't decided if the path I take it down is the right one. So. I hope you enjoy it and I will give you a forewarning that as the story progresses, it gets a bit more adult. For those of us just joining the party because they stumbled across it in the Paranormal category, there is a whole series of books you have to read until you get to this one. Go start with The Beginning. You can find it under "My Works" on my home page.

REWRITING! ' Why Do You Shun Me When You Have Fallen? Why Do You Shun Me When You Have Fallen? ' _______________________________________________________________________________ An ominous presence stirred as the Sun's final rays slipped below the horizon, casting the land into darkness. Shrouded in mystery and danger, a new power emerged with the onset of twilight. A cascade of purple flames erupted, their fiery tongues reaching out hungrily to consume anything in their path. The air crackled with malice, and an aura of trepidation settled upon all who beheld this spectacle. None were spared from its wrath, for the purple flames spared no one. Amidst this chaos, a shadowy figure materialized, her countenance contorted into a sinister smirk. With teeth bared like a predator, the enigmatic being reveled in her newfound dominance. Her name was whispered in fear and awe-The Shadow. She possessed an arsenal of lethal weapons, her claws gleaming ominously in the dim light. Fear was foreign to her, for she embraced the darkness that enveloped her. Beware, for the arrival of the Night loomed ominously, signaling the demise of the radiant Sun. The world was thrust into an eternal night, where the moon's pale glow held sway. It was a time of survival, a battle for existence against the encroaching darkness. Those who dared to face the challenge were urged to be resilient and determined. The Sunre, a chosen few who dared to resist the Night's dominion, were called upon to stand firm against the relentless onslaught. But it was an arduous task, one that demanded unwavering fortitude. ____________________________________________________________________________
