Kalia knows that only one person has truly understood her. The problem is that she freaking hates the guy. She's not alone in that, because he hates her as well.

The feud between Kalia and Lorenzo wasn't always a feud. They weren't always at each other's throats. They're the only two who know this, though.

Is it hate? Or a mutual violent obsession? The specifics don't matter to them. They want each other dead. But working together for years, knowing intimately how the other functions, it doesn't get them anywhere. It's hard to kill someone who knows your every move.

They work well together, despite any and all ill-feelings. The job comes first. They were trained well.

One mission they get assigned changes everything for them. Not only are they assigned to work together, but suddenly, the one sure thing in their lives - the system they were trained to trust - turns on them. What happens when they're targeted by the government they work for? It leaves them with no one to turn to but each other. They'll have to trust each other to survive.

They have to put their hate for each other aside and focus on the real enemy.

It doesn't take them long after they've put aside their differences to figure out that the feeling in their chest they mistook as loathing was love.
