Nellie experiences a drug-induced psychosis in a hotel room alone. Paranoid that she is dying causes her to call 911 to send help. She is convinced she is dead before the paramedics arrive and find her unconscious. Nellie habitually gets the "birthday blues": feelings of sadness, apathy, or a lack of desire to celebrate your birthday. Approaching Nellie's 30th birthday, she has recently lost her house and dealt with a turbulent start to her relationship with Harris. Harris and Nellie make amends just before Nellie's birthday, and Nellie has shut the rest of her friends and family out of her life from celebrating. Nellie makes a last minute decision to buy psychedelics for her birthday to try to stabilize her mood and self medicate. Nellie checks herself in a hotel room alone on her 30th birthday to "celebrate" alone with her psychedelic drugs.
