"Reach the end of your story in your own way." Such were the final words muttered to the young, future dragoneer, Amala E. Adalgild, before her ultimate departure.

No, this young woman isn't some legendary protagonist of a fantasy elegy. She's just a so-called background girl, a normal dragoneer on the sidelines.

A normal dragoneer with the world's burden on her back, that is. But not in the way you think. This is the story of a woman who was taught in an academy, and thus sent straight to the battlefields due to a certain event.

Will she remain normal, unrecorded in history? Or will she stand tall and be the guiding flame to the rest of the dragoneers raised by her side? Let's leave that to kismet.

Welcome to the Drogon Continent.

• BOOK 1 of the Guiding Flames series.

AUTHOR'S NOTES

Cover art is by finalprodigy on the site dragoart.com, this is not art theft and I am giving them full credit for making the original art. Please excuse me for this. Thank you.

Also, unlike my other original stories on this site, Guiding Flames: IGNIS, and the rest of the series, will have shorter chapters and a format different from what I usually write, as I am trying something new. It will be best to read this story, and the following tales, on a mobile device, specifically a phone.

Every year, swaths of 20-year-olds descend upon a college campus. Unfortunately, this college specializes in war, in consideration of the one raging at its borders. Outposts and enemies line the eastern mountains, guarded by many from the army, but most notably, the Dragon Riders. (Y/N)'s future was determined long before she was born. As far as she was concerned, none of that destiny included Basgiath; not after she watched her grandfather descend into mad ramblings from his battles after bonding a dragon, then fell to the whims of a power-hungry Colonel who would do anything to hurt her. The quadrant destroyed the good and empowered the bad, and she wanted nothing to do with it, no matter what her name spelled. Xaden Riorson's future was clear, no Basgiath or dragons in sight. That was, until he was 16, when his father's apostasy-turned-secession fell apart; his home was burned; and his father went missing, only to be reported by someone he thought was an ally, then murdered. Unfortunately for both of them, Basgiath wouldn't let them off so easily. Xaden had a two year head start and became a Wingleader, ready-and willing-to sacrifice anything to fulfill his goals. Some may call them selfish and many call him ruthless, but he's no stranger to prescribed titles. (Y/N) stood before the bridge, but she had no intention of making it across. Her ruined future and unstable life would be given to a cause much more worthy than the torture of Basgiath: her mother, her father, and her patron: Zihnal, the God of Chaos. *SHE/HER* [Book 1 of 2]

When a rare dragon egg was stolen from the sacred Cave of Noelle, the dragons' immense power vanished along with the hope of a mass dragon army. And over the past few years, the amount of Dragon Riders has fallen. Few men have been chosen to mount the fierce yet magnificent winged creatures and sail through the sky.
