Humanity is destined to be wiped out in seven years due to a malicious plague called "Shroud." Already killing many elderly and newborns; Kazuma Haruki sets out to make a cure for this plague. There are also monsters that stand taller than buildings, called "Tempests." Humanity has sought out to destroy these beasts as they spread Shroud even faster upon humans.
