The landscape of family medical leave laws is evolving quickly. Currently, 13 states and the District of Columbia have implemented mandatory Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) laws. Additionally, 3 states have enacted voluntary PFML laws. Several other states have legislative efforts underway to introduce similar regulations. Most states already have some form of mandatory, shorter-term paid sick leave laws in place.
