Kitt is the heir to the throne of Ilya. His entire life has been dedicated to making his father proud and following in his footsteps, to one day govern the kingdom. He knows his destiny is predetermined. Despite his loyalty and respect for his father, Kitt longs for more. He is tired of watching his brother, his future Enforcer, fight his battles for him.

Kara has spent most of her life in the slums with her friends, Paedyn and Adena, and her entire life hiding her true ability. When she is chosen to participate in the Purging Trials, her secret is at risk of being exposed. She must find a way to protect herself while also looking after Paedyn. 

Inevitably, and despite his father's warnings, Kitt feels drawn to Kara. She challenges everything he thought he knew and offers him a glimpse of freedom. But as they grow closer, they both must confront their own challenges, especially the king's strong disapproval of their bond.
