In the impoverished community of Nágmula, Amani confronts a harsh reality: she must work two jobs to support her ailing mother. One day, she receives two letters that will change her life. The first is an eviction notice, threatening to throw them out of their home due to unpaid rent. The second letter is an invitation to join the army of Narsis against the Ifreann, promising to settle her debts and provide a stable lifelong income for a loved one. The only requirement is one year of military service. The downside is that soldiers never return.

Driven by an unbreakable will to survive, Amani must cling to hope, cunning, and inner strength to withstand every trial. Despite her fears and warnings about the dangers of war, the young woman decides to enlist. It's a painful yet calculated decision: she knows she could die in battle, but she also sees the army as her only chance to secure a future for her mother.

With determination, she prepares for military training, facing physical and emotional challenges. From the outset, she doesn't fit in and is the weakest recruit. Her pay is threatened. As she progresses through training, she reflects on what she's leaving behind and what she hopes to achieve. She works hard. The story explores her internal struggles, her bravery, and her hope to find a new purpose amid adversity.
