Being the chosen of one of the Gods is an honor, but not for Vander who has been picked by the most unpredictable one, Unna, whose domain is the control of beasts. He has had to try very hard to keep control of his humanity or risk becoming a mindless beast. 

While he is training his newest batch of recruits, he is summoned back to Eluvia where the King lies on death's door. It is up to him and his comrades to discover who wants the King dead and why. Finding the answers will prove difficult as they must unravel conspiracy after conspiracy and stay ahead of those who wish him harm.
