"I've tried telling them I'm only fifteen. That no sane government would force a boy my age to fight crime. 'But Max, you're a superhero! Isn't this what you want?' Actually, no. I just kind of want to get through high school. Then we'll talk about this 'superhero' business." Max Owens is your average high school sophomore. Well, he tries to be, at least. At fifteen, he's got more important things to do than fight the infamous Vinicus Cauldwell. With his single mother having recently lost her job, Max is determined to help his family get back up on its feet. The publicity and pressure that comes with being a superhero would be too much to handle right now. But it's hard to fly under the radar, when you can literally fly. A Guide to Being Super
Every city has its claim to fame and for the city of Cytropolis it's their superheroes. But unlike the cities of Gotham and Central City, this isn't a good thing. Cytropolis is known far and wide as the city with the clumsiest and least influential superheroes ever. But it never mattered that much since the super villains were just as bad. That is, until recently when the villains decided to smarten up and open a super villain academy to train the newest generation (something that never occurred to the heroes). Luckily for them, Matt Miller has arrived. He may seem like an average, normal (even bordering on boring) seventeen-year-old boy, but when are things ever what they seem? He may be apathetic and bitter but he has super powers and he's kind of, well, powerful. He's the heroes only hope against the newest villain in town, Sinister Shadow, and he has no choice but to lend a hand (but he refuses to wear tights while he does it, he draws the line at tights). I should be dead. At least, that's what the government officials told me in the super-secret lab where I woke up strapped to a mattress in a windowless room...Sound problematic to anyone else? Like I told the psychos experimenting on me, I've got zero clue how I got my new powers, but I'm sure-as-shit not going to let them turn me into a deadly weapon (or squeeze me into a spangly jumpsuit). Problem is, I'm not so great at controlling whatever the hell it is I've become...Not to mention I'm on the run from my country for a teensy-weensy act of treason while being chased by a shadowy masked mute who may or may not have superhuman abilities too (but is definitely stupid hot under his off-putting disguise). We don't get that kind of recognition at the camps. There, we are only one thing in the military's eyes. We are weapons and we will act like it. Everyone else out there, bathing in the goodness they don't know they've got, they don't know about the roaches their stepping on. As long as their getting closer to the sky, they don't care what they stand on to reach it. They don't know about the sparkling dreamer that's killed 7 people before her 17th birthday. They don't about the ghost of a girl peaking around corners for her entire life because even home wasn't safe. But, I would trade my life with yours cause' I hate having this fear everyday. People fear me though. They're afraid that I'll hurt them, but would never hurt a soul.
