An alternate universe where on the day when Hiccup planned to leave Berk forever with Toothless after being selected to kill the Monsterous Nightmare. This time, Astrid didn't follow him, and he and Toothless were able to leave.
He travels for a few days alone with his dragon as the vikings of Berk speculate what had happened to the Chief's son. On an island, outside the archipelago, he meets a certain red-haired man, and his raven-haired sister, who had been shipwrecked after their island was attacked and burned, leaving them to be the only survivors. An alliance gets formed, and quickly they become a family of three wayward teenagers and a dragon who goes on insane adventures together.
But rumors beyond the archipelago don't stay out for long. What happens when Berk finds out the boy they doubted and ridiculed may not be so dead after all?
I do not own Httyd or any of these characters. I do not know if someone had written something like this, so I'm sorry if it seems like it.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third is the only son of Stoick the Vast, chief of the Hooligan tribe. As his only son, he is next in line for the chiefdom which wouldn't be a problem, if he wasn't a runt. Viking's believe that a name is what strikes fear into your enemies. Hiccup's obviously doesn't. The name is given to those who won't survive their first winter. Those who don't belong, those who will not be any more than a burden. Hiccup isn't an exception to this. I mean, sure he survived his first winter, and the next fifteen. But he caused problems, not on purpose. Things just happened when he was around. First when he was six, and a nearby furnace blew up when he lost his temper. Then when he was eight, nine, eleven. These strange happenings kept occurring, and nothing he did helped. Everything he did, everything he tried had some way of turning back on him. For the longest time he believe that the God's cursed him. Long ago, there was a village of vikings on a small island known as Berk, which suffered weekly, sometimes even nightly raids from fire breathing dragons. However the chief's wife, Valka, believed peace was possible between the Vikings and Dragons but no one believed her. During a terrible raid, she was taken by a dragon that showed signs of kindness. However she wasn't the only one taken since she grabbed her infant, Hiccup Haddock the Third, to keep him away from a fire started by the dragon who was startled by her husband. Unfortunately she couldn't grab her other son, a toddler, in time and he was left behind with his father. Over the years, the boy grew up hating dragons and counted down the days until he could join the warriors in battle, defending his village and avenging his brother and mother. However his father always kept him inside the forge during raids in fear of losing the only family he had left. There, the boy became a bit of an inventor as well as a decent blacksmith. However all of that changed when one night, using one of his inventions, he shot down the most dangerous and mysterious dragon in the entire Archipelago. The Night Fury...
