Valerie lives on an ancient island, where not only dragons exist, but magical creatures. Valerie was enlisted in the specialty to become a healer, but her mother changed it last moment so she would have to join the dragon wing, and see if she'll survive. With no fighting experience, short, and just in general, not fit for this, she'll have to do multiple obstical courses to prove herself worthy of protecting the island and step in her mothers footsteps, and become the greatest dragon rider of them all. If she does not succeed, she is dead.

But, even all of Valerie's tutoring could not have prepared her for the real world and the dangers it holds. Thankfully, her best friend finds her and helps her on her way. And, for a minstrel, Jonathan sure has some handy hidden talents. The road to the wizard is long and arduous, and there are many lessons to be learnt along the way. But, will he grant her wish? At the age of fourteen years old, Valerie considered herself too old to still believe in fairy tales. She believed on walking to school with Audrey and looking at Gabriel whenever there was a sports practice or in class where he sat two seats at her right in the row before hers. She believed in hanging out with Jonathan in a secretive way only the two of them shared, she believed on the four of them sometimes hanging out after school. She believed in her aunt Moira, who sometimes went to travel to who knows where and returned with presents for her. She, did not believe in swords carefully kept away in the depths of caves waiting for fate to pick them up or men coming out of crystal cages to help. And especially, she did not believe in ancient wizards raising from the dead ready to take over the world.
