Lady Rosette has ordered all the Demoniacs purged and exorcised from her country. Yet, under her very nose, four young strangers flee across the border and disappear into a land of beguiling mystery and folklore, where they hope to free their souls from the Demons who have Marked them. One of them is her youngest daughter. And they won't be going back - not until it's going forward, that is.

On their epic journey through the lands of Rosette's enemies, they hope to find their liberty. They flee abusers. They outrun grief and loneliness. They even stray beyond the reach of gods. But there are some demons who are always following, and sometimes... sometimes they might just catch up.
