Commander chooses Laffey has his personal secretary.  Dispite the numerous backlash from the battleships, aircraft carriers, cruiser, frigates and destroyers wanting the position themselves.

Comments like;

Is always settled with comments from him bieng;

* Great, meaning she won't be noisy. *

* Like I got hired to wait around all day. *

* If I was your grace, I would go for you. *

* No, you would actually hinder work.  Which was Yamato's problem. *


Though those are what the others would hear.  Laffey will get different reasons.
