When Jacob Matthews hears about his brother's suicide, he drops everything, quits his Havard-only job and heads back home. It's been a decade since he left the quiet town of Lakeside Grove to build his own life, and now he's determined to figure out what drove his brother to take his own life. But his dead brother might not be the only mystery he needs to solve. Grace Davis, the local cop and a single mother he keeps bumping into, seems to be more than just a familiar face. There might be something between them if only he could look past his obsession with the truth.

Everything changes when Jacob finds letters his brother wrote and mentions of a girl in his diary that no one seems to know about. He's convinced that if he can find this girl, he might uncover the truth and maybe, just maybe, redeem himself for all the mistakes he made when he left ten years ago.

But the truth has a way of revealing unexpected things, and sometimes the answers aren't what you hoped you'd find.
