"We're not who you think we are. We're helping you."
"I don't care." She turned the gun from Shuri and pressed the barrel beneath her chin and fired.

To her, he was a ghost; to him, she was a stranger.

There were no more super soldiers. It was a well known fact. But when Bucky retrieves a woman in cryostasis in an abandoned Hydra facility, he begins to wonder otherwise. She has a Vibranium spine, her history with Howard Stark and an oddly vague couple decades she refuses to depict.
Kate Alden was a scientist, engineer, and the next protégé of the 1950s until HYDRA deemed her necessary for their work. Being forced into Hydra's game, she is tasked with a nearly impossible mission: creating the Winter Soldier.
After thirty years in cryostasis, the one person that Kate thought she'd never see again was the one who pulled her out. Bucky Barnes. The person she thought she'd loved. Except, he had no memory of her her existence. He had no idea that she'd brainwashed, tortured and manipulated him for decades. He'd changed, he was good, and he had absolutely no idea what she had done to him. And it had to stay that way.

⚠️Under 18, DNI⚠️ After the flaming dumpster fire that was SHIELD's collapse and the whole "surprise, Hydra was here the whole damn time!" debacle, one former agent slipped through the cracks like a pissed-off ghost in a leather jacket. She vanished from the grid, reputation scorched, trust obliterated, and purpose? Shattered. Enter Tony Stark. Because of course it was Tony. He found her somewhere between a breakdown and a bar fight, took one look at the smudged eyeliner, the sarcasm-drenched trauma, and the "bite me" attitude-and said, "Yeah, I can work with that." He brought her in, tucked her away in the shadows of the compound, and trained her like a secret weapon no one saw coming. Four years of quiet sharpening. Four years of sweat, rage, Red Bull, and a whole lot of therapy avoidance. And when he finally deemed her ready? He unleashed her like a feral raccoon with a vengeance complex. Gone was the clean-cut SHIELD poster girl. In her place: chaos incarnate. Combat boots, chipped black nail polish, hair that looked like it had been in a fistfight with a Lisa Frank folder, and a mouth that could out-swear a sailor with road rage. The Avengers? They didn't know what to do with her. And yet. Two of the most emotionally constipated, chaos-flavored men on the roster found themselves utterly, stupidly hooked. Bucky Barnes tried to pretend he wasn't watching her-like she didn't short-circuit something in his brain every time she threw a knife with that smug little grin. But he noticed everything. Then there was Loki. The God of Trouble himself. She was unpredictable. Unrefined. Unapologetically alive. So now? It's a quiet war between two broody bastards who've never properly communicated a feeling in their lives, and the chaos gremlin woman who thinks emotional vulnerability is worse than waterboarding. There's blood. Banter. Probably some light property damage. Spoiler: it's not going well. But it's going loud.

They were forged in war and fractured by the same hands that made them monsters. Katherine Zola was born with a name she never chose, the daughter of HYDRA's most notorious architect. A child genius, a living weapon, and the program's most effective ghost. Her mission logs were sealed in blood and buried in silence-until one day, she was given a name: Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes. She didn't know why HYDRA wanted him-not at first. Only that she was ordered to track, weaken, and retrieve him. That her mission began before his fall from the train in 1945. That she was the reason he ended up in enemy hands. And she did it. She followed orders. She delivered him. What she didn't expect was to care. What she didn't plan for was falling in love with the man she helped damn. Bucky Barnes thought he was just another casualty of HYDRA-another soldier stripped of self and turned into a weapon. But the truth was darker. His capture wasn't chance. It was chosen. He was targeted by a girl with smoke in her lungs, ghosts in her eyes, and a lie tucked in her smile. A girl who became everything to him, right before she disappeared. Decades later, they stand on opposite sides of the same war-both survivors of mind control, both drowning in guilt. And both still tethered to each other by a past neither can outrun. Because she was his mission long before he ever became hers. -Set during Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Thunderbolts -long book, buckle up for the ride. #1 in thewintersoldier 9.24.25 #1 in original character 9.23.25 #1 in natasharomanoff 12.28.25 #1 in avengersfanfiction 1.6.26 #2 in jamesbarnes 9.24.25 #3 in samwilson 10.9.25 #3 in marvel 12.30.25 #6 in wintersoldier 9.24.25

"If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself". ~She is a beautiful, unsettling paradox. Her face is soft and symmetrical, with full lips and wide eyes that hint at a forgotten innocence. Yet her smile never quite reaches them, a phantom expression that seems rehearsed and out of place. There is a deep, unsettling stillness about her, as if she is a doll waiting for someone to wind her up. She moves with a lethal elegance, a dancer's grace that she weaponizes with practiced ease. Her voice, when she speaks, is unnaturally calm and even, devoid of the inflection that signals emotion. She is a woman of contradictions-a gentle face, a killer's soul; a still body, a restless mind; a blank slate on the surface, but a fractured, terrifying mosaic just below. ~He is no longer the Winter Soldier, but he isn't Bucky, either. He exists in a quiet, haunted space between two lives, the playful friend from Brooklyn now just a fading memory. The trauma of seventy years of manipulation is etched in his weary eyes and the instinctive way he still handles his metal arm. Though free, he remains lost, a ghost haunting his own life, constantly battling fragments of his violent past while clinging to the fragile trust he has in Steve. ~Saved by the Avengers, the girl was a weapon without a master, lashing out at her rescuers. Steve saw a ghost of Bucky in her eyes and kept his distance, his compassion warring with his distrust. For weeks, their relationship was a minefield of animosity, her resentment fueled by his cautious pity. The thaw was slow, starting during training and quiet moments of shared trauma. Eventually, their hatred softened into a deep, unspoken understanding, two broken soldiers finding a fragile kind of healing together.
